After a few months of exploration, I finally found a way to grow any shape in volume. I also grew a shoe by mixing automatic tools (a homemade bioreactor) and manual actions to maintain and continue growing the biofilm beyond the usual environment of acetic bacteria.
My goal is to explore and push the boundaries of artifact creation and grow them directly like vegetables. The idea is to challenge the way we make things - far removed from living things and what they do naturally: grow directly into the necessary, finished form.
Advances in biology (synthetic biology, Engineered Living Material) are redefining the creation of the forms and artifacts that surround us, so why not completely rethink our relationship with materiality and its shaping?
I hope to be able to show amore detailled publication on this subject here soon.
